When you install the Chipolo app on your mobile device and register your Chipolo account, the Chipolo app will ask that you enable a few permissions.
Below is the list of the permissions that the Chipolo app needs to function, and a short description why each one is needed.
Location permissions
Needed for basic functionality
Location information is used to confirm the location of your Chipolo and display its position on the map in the Chipolo app.
If you choose to ‘show your device’ in the Chipolo app, location information will also be used to confirm the location of your mobile device and display its position on the map in the Chipolo web app.
Camera permissions
Needed for additional features such as:
Taking a selfie -> Not necessary for basic functionality of the app
Scanning QR Code of the Chipolo Lost & Found Label -> User can deny and use manual input instead
Taking a picture to add to the Chipolo Lost & Found Label -> Not necessary for basic functionality of the app
This feature is not active by default, and you will only be asked to allow these permissions when these features are used.
Contacts permissions
Needed for additional features such as:
Sharing your Chipolo and/or device -> When you share your Chipolo through the Chipolo app, the app will ask permission to access your phone’s contacts, so that you can choose the contact’s email address directly.
If you would like to leave this disabled, you can deny access and simply fill in the email address manually.
Storage permissions
Needed for additional features such as:
Taking a selfie -> Access to phone’s storage is needed so that you can save the Chipolo selfie that you took on your phone.
Taking a picture to add to your Chipolo Lost & Found Label -> Access to phone’s storage is needed so that you can save the picture that you took on your phone.
This feature only needs to be enabled on Android devices. On iOS devices, this permission is enabled by default.
Motion & Fitness permissions
Needed for additional features:
Battery optimization on iOS -> Chipolo app uses this feature to reduce communication with the Chipolo when you are not in motion to limit phone battery consumption.
This feature is only available on iOS.

On iOS
