When you install the Chipolo app on your mobile device and register your Chipolo account, the Chipolo app will ask that you enable a few permissions.
Below is the list of the permissions that the Chipolo app needs to function, and a short description of why each one is needed.
Location permissions
Needed for basic functionality
Location information is used to confirm the location of your Chipolo and display its position on the map in the Chipolo app.
If you choose to show your phone in the list view of Chipolo app by turning on "Show this device" in the Chipolo app settings menu, location information will also be used to confirm the location of your mobile device and display its position on the map in the Chipolo web app.
Camera permissions
Needed for additional features:
Taking a selfie -> Not necessary for basic functionality of the app.
Contacts permissions
Needed for additional features:
Sharing your Chipolo and/or device -> When you share your Chipolo through the Chipolo app, the app will ask permission to access your phone’s contacts, so that you can choose the contact’s email address directly.
If you would like to leave this disabled, you can deny access and simply fill in the email address manually.
Storage permissions
Needed for additional features:
Taking a selfie -> Access to the phone’s storage is needed so that you can save the Chipolo selfie that you took on your phone.
This feature only needs to be enabled on Android devices. On iOS devices, this permission is enabled by default.
Motion & Fitness/Physical activity permissions
Needed for additional features:
Out of Range Alerts -> One of the factors that is taken into account before the Out of Range Alert is triggered is how far the phone has moved. To be able to determine that, Chipolo app needs permission to access Motion & Fitness/Physical activity.
Battery optimization on iOS -> Chipolo app uses this feature to reduce communication with the Chipolo when you are not in motion to limit phone battery consumption.
This feature is only available on iOS.
Nearby Devices permission
Needed for additional features:
Simplified pairing -> With this permission enabled, Chipolo app can detect if there is a Chipolo in pairing mode nearby and will automatically offer you the option to pair it, without needing to go through the "+ Add a new Chipolo" menu.
Change permissions
On iOS
Go to the Settings app, scroll down to the "Apps" menu, and look for the Chipolo app on the list. Tap on that and adjust your permissions on the next screen.
On Android
Go to Settings > Apps and scroll down the list until you find Chipolo. Tap on that, and on the next screen, select either Notifications or Permissions, depending on the adjustments you would like to make.
